The Location
Enfield was one of the first Clubs to be established in the UK - Founded in 1893. It has a traditional feel but with a modern touches which is a lovely mix - something for every taste. The Course and Clubhouse are situated in beautiful surroundings with a picturesque, 18 hole parkland course you'd not believe you were in Enfield. We were very much welcomed at Enfield and had full use of their facilities.Attending:
18 people, including six most welcome guests Frans, Keith, Patrick, Brian Gary and Bill, turned out to play in the Captain vs Chairman annual team four-ball better-ball match play event this year at Enfield Golf Club on the 20th September. The Event
The Captain vs Chairman trophy records this event as having been held since 1976, and it's quite possible that the competition took place before this... Steve and Alban broke slightly from tradition, detailed on the website, for selecting the teams again this year. The website shows the tradition and a summary of the winning teams from the records we hold. But this year they chose the teams on the day, shared the team selections and compromised on the order of play so that wherever possible, close friends (especially the guests) were to play together, but on opposite sides... It was hoped there would be a greater degree niggle between the competitors that way and of course more fun overall. On this event there would be no 1st second and third place awards we chose to have nearest the pin, nearest the pin in two, and longest drive. The history of winners had the ratio 22-9 in favour of the captain, with last year being the only occasion where the result turned out as a draw. But in recent decades that ratio had been closing so it would be anyone's guess as to who would win this event...
The weather was wonderful for playing golf on the day and the course was generally in very good condition, but in parts showed the effects of the recent flooding. The team selections were:

The Captain and Chairman chose to go off last and see their teams away to do battle...

And I couldn't resist showing the captain's novel, laid back approach to the game including his pre-shot putting routine - see second photo below....
Claims it's because of dodgy knees
Notwithstanding the Chair loosing his match to the Captain by 3 holes with 1 to play the overall result was 3½ to 1 ½ for the Chair. And of course much rib taking ensued...
It was unfortunate for J Skinner who managed to get his name on all three markers for: nearest the pin, longest drive, and nearest the pin in two, but failed to get a prize. The prizes went to:
Nearest the Pin: S Gollop
Longest Drive: A Macdonald
Nearest the pin in two: A Macdonald
