2012 Captain's day - West Essex GC

It was great to see 21 people including five guests attending the Nortel's Captain's Day event at
the  West Essex Golf Club on Monday 18th June.
We certainly we were fortunate with the weather again - thanks of course to Steve Barber's attendance :-).
And to top that the Captain raised £65 towards his Charity  .

The weather conditions were ideal and allowed West Essex to live up to it's claim to be one of the best course in all Essex. The course was a joy to play and oddly boasts the smallest championship green in England -  the 5th a short par three where you try to land your ball on what is considered to be ‘the Frying Pan’ by the members. And it was that hole that Captain Steve duly chose to use as the nearest-the-pin hole....

The spectacular views of London Landmarks on different holes were certainly visible on the day and I personally caught sight of the O2 Millennium Dome, Canary Wharf; the Shard - which was significantly taller that the Gherkin and the Nat-West tower in the City. I saw the London Eye, the BT Tower and Wembley. The only thing I missed was the Olympic Stadium which others told me was there I just needed to know what to look for!!!

The day consisted of:
Arrive at 9:00am to meet and chat over tea/coffee and bacon/salmon rolls;
10:00am -  9 holes team Texas scramble;
12:00pm -  Rolling Lunch -  Ham, Egg & Chips.
First afternoon tee of at 1:00pm - 18 holes Stableford,
Then a two course evening meal :- Oriental Beef in Hoi Sin Sauce served with Rice followed by Spotted Dick & Custard
And the cursory trip to the 19th hole to finish the day, before departing home...

Results:

Texas Scramble winners : L Ockleford, C Wigg and; A Sidley
Texas Scramble Runner Up team: V Clark, S Gollop and A Macdonald

A vote of thanks to Captain Steve for supplying the prizes for the Texas Scramble and the pick a card fun competitions....
