NORTEL GS President's Cup 18th May 2012

On 18th May, NORTEL GS be played Whipsnade GC for the first time.   The weather was fine as was to be expected,  Steve Barber was playing...!
The course came highly recommended and lived up to that expectation, and the venue feedback from those who played it reflects this in their marks and comments, with all bar one "wishing  to return" again next year, and the exception wishing to return in 2014...
Whipsnade Golf Club is set in the beautiful countryside of the Chiltern Hills on the borders of Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire, with panoramic views over all three. The photos of two of the holes are shown above and below .
This lengthy, mature tree lined, 18 hole, par 73 parkland course, is bordered on two sides by Whipsnade Wild Animal Park and is some 500 feet above sea level, yet was surprisingly flat, making for easy walking.

The food was of exceptional quality and all who ate there were very complementary about the quality of the food.

NORTELs President's Cup 2012 results:

1st S Barber 33 points ( a shot off his handicap now down to 7)
2nd A Sidey 33 Points
3rd C Brown 33 Points
The winning positions settled on count-back - this is a first for the society, and begs the question if  they should they all be cut?

Best guest score Nigel Shadbolt 36 Points who magnanimously offered his prize to second place. Nigel said "I've came today for a day of social golf only..."  Martin James had no such concerns and gladly accepted the bottle of wine.

Nearest the pin in two: S Bartha
Nearest the pin: L Ockleford

Details of the latest positions of the Nortel's Clubman/Player of the year, and Eclectic competition are now being held on the Nortel's website Result's Leader-board page.

A summary of the  range of this year's results is being held on the Results page.

Parish Notices

A few parish notices were raised regarding payments made to the society, the captain's competitions and the next event.

Payments to the Society

The treasurer asked that when making transfer payments to the society bank account, he asks that we always advise him by email when payments are being made into the account and that we should not make payments for multiple products. In other words he wants us to keep membership payments separate from events and that payments should not be off-set against costs incurred either. And where costs are incurred we should advise Chris by email and send ,or give him the, receipt. He will either send you a cheque or do a bank transfer and that each transaction should be separate and not combined.  This will make Chris's role much easier to manage.

Captain's Charity Competitions

The captain has three competitions running this year, namely the Eclectic, Greens, and Bunker competitions. The charge for entering any one of these is £10. However all three can be entered for £15.

The Next event

The next NORTEL's event is the Captain's Day, that will take place at West Essex Golf Club on Monday the 18th June. This again comes highly recommended and it promises to be a great day; click on the highlighted text to get a flavour of what's in store on "The Captain's day" in the news page. This is and also  mentioned on The Captain's page including a little more about his chosen charity Diabetes UK.
