NORTELS Golf Society - 2008-09 AGM

Nortels met for their 2009 Annual General Meeting at Malton Golf Course on 21-April-2009.
We started the day with bacon baps & coffee, and some - who will remain nameless - liked the bacon baps so much they ordered seconds.
22 people played the course, whilst Steve - our "retiring" treasurer - joined us for the evening meal and the AGM proceedings.
The course was in good condition with the fairways and greens firm. The greens proved to be slower than normal as the green-keeper was allowing the grass to grow slightly longer to combat some disease. None the less everyone enjoyed the course and there were some very good scores recorded. The weather was spectacular for this time of year with strong sunshine and just a hint of a cool refreshing breeze. We teed off in six groups of three people followed by one group of four.
The course is quite long and generally flat with wide fairways, however water-hazards come into play on a number of holes. These make Malton
more of a challenge, but luckily only a few fell fowl of these.
Most people returned with a good score and it took some groups longer than the recomended 4 hrs 5 min's to negotiate this 6442 yard standard scratch 72 par course.

Evening Meal...

The clubhouse was small and we all felt very welcomed. We were each treated to delicious steak, chips and salad cooked to our preference, whilst other choices were available to those with food preferences. This was followed by an apple pie to die for, and coffee.
Prior to Dinner the customary Ball Raffle took place

Clubman of the year (top three spots)

As you might expect this being our first event of the year the top spots will follow the results of this event. The points are shown below:

  • Mr S Barber - 31 points

  • Mr S Bartha, Mr A Macdonald & Mr K Franklin - 29 points

  • Mr M Pegg - 27 Points

The next event will take place on Wednesday 20th May, at the superbe Canons Brook Golf Course for the Mrs Nichols trophy. Tea/Coffee & bacon Roll on arrival with a 2 course Lunch to follow. This course is one of my favorites and should not to be missed - it was designed by the legendry Sir Henry Cotton, has matured for over 40 years, it presents a truly engaging golf experience with lots of variety and all located in a beautiful setting in Harlow, Essex.
