The inaugural Ryder Cup match between the STAGS and NORTEL's Golf Societies took place on Friday 13th April 2012. Some 16 little gladiators
Battle commenced after the cursory bacon rolls/coffee. The draw was conducted by the Captains. The honourable Paul Hodder for STAGS and debonair Steve Read for NORTELs. The day was excellent with lots of good weather, mainly sunshine and a light breeze. Which lent itself to some rather shabby/chic attire. Particularly eye catching was a distinguished pair of yellow checked shorts. No quarter was asked or given and by the end of battle it was NORTELs who reigned victorious 5-3.

However, captain Paul and partner were winners over captain Steve and partner by 1 hole. Even after valiant efforts by Steve’s partner (another Steve) to keep the match going for so long. With what could only be described as the dirtiest and oldest golf clubs known to man.
The meal of Steak Pie or Fish and chips was heartily devoured, followed by prize giving, a raffle and auction.
All-in-all a great day was had by everyone and in the 19th talk of the rematch next year was evident. New friends were made and hopefully a lasting bond between both societies.
And to top that some £320 was raised and will be donated to Diabetes UK.
Thanks go to all who made this such a great occasion...
