NORTEL 2012 Spring Cup & AGM - Potters Bar Golf Club

Aerial view of Potters Bar

Dear Friends of NGS,

The Nortel Spring Cup & AGM for 2012 was held on Thuesday the 27th March 2012, at Potters Bar Golf Club, Darkes Lane, Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, EN6 1DE.
Some 15 people including five guests (Ivor, Colin, Patrick, Alan & Andrew) turned out on the Golf with Frank joining us for the AGM - albeit some tummy troubles so didn't eat. We chose to organise ourselves in three groups of four and a group of three. The weather was good for the time of year, however we were disappointed to have to tee-off on mats on every hole.

The food was nice, but we felt the one waitress was a little bit stretched having to serve the food and take the drinks too. But all in all a good day out. I shall arrange a survey soon and post a link to the results on our new web page.

Spring Cup results:
1st C Brown 37 points on count-back from
2nd K Franklin 37 Points
3rd A Farenden 36 Points

Best guest score
Parick O’Sullivan 36 Points

Nearest the pin: S Read
Nearest the pin in two: G Newell

The AGM

The AGM took place after the meal and the following were agreed:

Membership fees
are to continue at £25 and are to be paid before membership benefits will be allowed; and guest rates will be charged until such time as membership is paid. Renewals to be paid before the first event in April.

NORTELs Web Site released
We have released the new Nortels Web Site and hold relevant Society information there.
The web pages has 9 pages that help publicise the society by describe what we're about, it is the central oracle for events with details held on both the Nortel Calendar and events list sheet showing all up and coming venues. There's a "News page" that may in the near future subsume this blog. We have developed a Virtual Trophy Cabinet, that shows the winners of current and past competitions, and for each trophy or Cup, a picture and the full history of the winners are available. Note that this is still under construction as we do not have all of the photographs of the trophies we use - but hopefully it will not be long before they are all loaded.
The site includes a Society Picture Gallery. There's a resources area that containRules of the society / constitution, and some helpful guides - eg tips on how best to complete your stableford score-card. The site also has a "contact us" that we hope will be used by non-members to make contact with the society. Finally we have an area which is restricted for the committy use only.

The site is available here http://sites.google.com/site/nortelgs/.

CAPTAIN's Finale
Captain Tony reflected on the year which had been both good fun and raised a tidy sum for his chosen charity.

Election of Officers
The Committee were re-elected this year with one exception Steve Barber stepped down because of pressure of work commitments. The committee and members are very grateful for all that he has done for the society over the last three years and wish to extend their thanks to Steve B.

New Captain's Address
Tony passed the captaincy over to Steve Read which will take the reigns this year and raise funds for Diabetes UK. Steve also indicated that he'd be running the Eclectic competition plus two others that would run through the year; namely the Greens (greens hit in regulation) and the bunkers (No of bunkers hit per round) and he'd be offering a prize to the winners at the end of the year fro all of these for a measly £15 sign-up fee.

Finally, Tony advised the membership that he'll be in hospital undergoing a serious operation in April and will not be able for the Beaver Trophy in April. We all offer Tony our very best wishes... Get well soon Tony.

The next events:

Friday 13th April
A special in support of Steve's Charity Stags vs Nortel's Ryder Cup competition - at the Hertfordshire.
Monday 26 April
Beaver Trophy - North Middlesex

New Vice Captain Announced
Subsequent to the meeting the committee were delighted to announce that Steve Gollop will take on the Vice Captain's role this year.
